Hot and sticky weather is on the way for the majority of Nova Scotia.
Environment Canada says the heat is expected for the entire mainland. It will begin Wednesday afternoon and continue through Friday, and possibly into the weekend for some counties.
The weather agency says daytime highs will reach near 32 degrees, but with the humidity it will be closer to 38.
According to the warning, “A hot and humid air mass is expected to move into the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing a period of persistently high daytime temperatures and elevated Humidex values. Nighttime lows are also forecast to stay warm, providing little to no relief.”
Jill Maepea, Meteorologist with Environment Canada says, “it is expected that inland areas of the mainland will feel the impact more due to a southwesterly breeze expected along the coastline.”
She says heat warnings don’t affect the majority of people but vulnerable members of the public, such as the elderly or those with respiratory issues, may be largely impacted.
“Many people may not recognize the symptoms of heat stroke which can come on quickly in the heat,” says Maepea.
Officials are urging Nova Scotians to take precautions as prolonged heat can pose serious health risks.
