Premier Tim Houston had to leave a speaking event in Wolfville with a police escort after his vehicle was surrounded by protesters.
Multiple outlets report Houston was at Acadia University on Wednesday to speak to the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The event was the first stop on a chamber of commerce tour focused on Houston’s vision for Nova Scotia’s economy.
Protesters gathered outside, including people raising concerns about possible library closures in the Annapolis Valley.
The crowd grew louder during Houston’s speech, with people protesting several issues.
When Houston tried to leave, the vehicle he got into was surrounded.
People climbed on top of it, stopping it from leaving, and the windshield was smashed.
Houston remained inside for several minutes before police escorted him back into the building.
He later left campus in a marked RCMP vehicle.
