Using less water now mandatory for hundreds of thousands in HRM

Certain areas of HRM have to continue to use less water.

Despite the rain over the weekend, it was not enough to fill Lake Major – the water supply for Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Eastern Passage, Burnside, Westphal and North Preston.

Halifax Water put these areas under a volunteer conservation notice, November 14, due to low levels and we are now at the next stage.

The utility continues to ask you to do things like take shorter showers, only use a full load of laundry and not to run the tap while brushing your teeth.

However, now they say, although most of these are out of season, effective immediately you cannot wash your car, water your lawn or any outdoor plants.

If the weather gets a lot colder, you can’t create an outdoor rink.

In addition to this, companies who use the fill-up stations for Lake Major, now have to use other sites.
