A Lunenburg taxi service said it is with a heavy heart and an abundance of caution, that it has temporary suspended its service after a public dispute with the mayor.
Simon Gordon, the owner of SaltWind Transportation has accused Jamie Myra of inappropriate behavior after refusing him a late-night pickup request on June 12 due to a large group attempting to get in the vehicle.
Gordon alleges Myra refused to leave one of the company’s vehicles, that police were called, and that later conversations with the mayor included comments he viewed as threatening and attempts to keep the matter private.
Myra has said he has a “much different version” of what happened.
Since the claim, in a post on social media Wednesday evening around 6 p.m., Gordon said he was accosted multiple times earlier in the day while actively in service.
“During one instance, homophobic slurs were thrown in my direction,” said Gordon.
Shortly after the post was made, Gordon updated saying he was pulling down the company’s website after receiving what appeared to be emails impersonating the mayor.
Gordon said he did not intend to make the matter public but due to changes to the province’s code of conduct last year, he was unable to make formal complaint about a municipal official as a private citizen.
Under the changes, complaints can only be filed by another member of council in the municipality where the alleged violation occurred.
The town said it is investigating the matter.
