N.S. becomes last jurisdiction in Canada to set fixed election date

Nova Scotia has become the last jurisdiction in our country to set a fixed election date.

The changes to the Elections Act proposed by the PC government passed final reading in the legislature on Friday.

That means you can now set a reminder on your phone or circle it in your calendar.

We’ll head to the polls in a provincial election no later than July 15, 2025.

However, the premier can still call an election at any time or if there is a vote on non-confidence in the legislature.

Members of the opposition have challenged the move, saying elections held in the summer could lead to lower voter turnout.
