New health clinic opens in Dartmouth

A new health clinic in Dartmouth is offering a wide range of services to thousands of Nova Scotians.

The province says the Dr. Maria Angwin Memorial on Wyse Road has primary care, gynecology, obstetrics, urology and midwifery.

It will also host community programs like the Nova Scotia Sisterhood and Brotherhood.

The clinic is named after Dr. Angwin who became the first woman licensed to practice medicine in Nova Scotia in 1884 and dedicated her career to women’s health and preventative medicine.

“This health clinic is a first for the community and one of two locations that, over time, will offer various services, programs and supports to Dartmouth North and surrounding communities,” says Health Minister Michelle Thompson.

There are four physicians, a family practice nurse, a nurse practitioner and five administrative support staff.

It will be able to take on more than 6,400 patients and is the first of two clinics to open in the community.

Construction is underway on Windmill Road, expected to open in 2027.

Primary care services at Dr. Maria Angwin Memorial open June 17, with the remaining services and programs to open throughout June and July.
