Nova Scotia Power late fees to resume October 1

Nova Scotia Power customers will have to pay late fees again starting October 1.

The utility says late fees have not been applied to outstanding bills since last year’s cyberattack.

Nova Scotia Power says billing is now returning to normal, and customers are being given more than 60 days’ notice before late fees resume.

Chris Lanteigne, Nova Scotia Power’s director of customer care, says waiving late fees after the cyber incident was the right thing to do for customers.

“We know some customers may need help to manage their balance,” Lanteigne said. “Our team is here to support with flexible, interest-free payment plans, which spreads costs evenly over 12 months, and extended options of up to 24 months.”

The utility is also announcing new support for people struggling with their power bills.

Nova Scotia Power says it is creating a new Community Energy Fund through its Grassroots Grants program.

The fund will match assistance provided by participating organizations, with the goal of helping more customers access support.

The company says it will work with community organizations across Nova Scotia to connect eligible customers with financial help for their power bills.

More details about the Community Energy Fund, including application information, are expected in the coming weeks.
