Property taxes going up for Halifax homeowners

It will be a heavier bill in the mail when the city comes looking for you to pay up your taxes.

Councillors approved a 4.6 percent increase on Tuesday which means if you own a home it’s going to be $100 more than last year.

Businesses will have to dig deeper as well depending on size.

The increase boils down to higher property values in a hot housing market.

The budget includes a climate tax of three percent this year to help pay for things like electric buses.

The vote was 14-3 in favour.
