A man has been arrested after a weapons complaint in the Fairview area on Wednesday.
Halifax Regional Police responded to an incident near Frederick Avenue just after 12 p.m.
The area was shut down between Alex and Hillcrest streets with the public asked to stay away.
In an update, police say Frederick Avenue has reopened to traffic and there is no threat to public safety.
Several schools in the area were placed in a hold and secure, including Burton Ettinger, Clayton Park Junior High, Duc d’Anville, Fairview Heights, and Fairview Junior High. The Halifax Regional Centre for Education says the measure has now been lifted at all five schools.
Students will be dismissed at their regular times. Families have been notified.
The investigation is ongoing.
