SiRT clears off-duty Halifax cop after Porters Lake crash

The province’s police watch dog has cleared an off-duty Halifax police officer after a crash in Porters Lake that left a man with serious injuries.

SiRT says it was in the afternoon of January 24 on Myra Road.

A man was helping a passenger in the backseat of his parked vehicle and was partially on the road.

He was hit by a car driving by, with an off-duty police officer who was at the wheel.

The man had injuries to his leg, pelvis and head and was taken to hospital by LifeFlight.

The officer was not hurt, and it was confirmed alcohol was not a factor.
