The 40th IWK Telethon Will Honour Frank Cameron and Bruce Guthro

The 40th IWK Telethon is on this weekend in support for the region’s largest children’s hospital here in Halifax.

The celebrations start this Saturday, June 1st with the two-hour musical special called “A Telethon Tribute To 40 Years of Community Giving” airing at 7 p.m. on CTV.

The broadcast includes Maritime performers Neon Dreams, Joe H. Henry, O’ Sound, Morgan Toney, and Irish Mythen – along with a special appearance by the IWK’s very own band.

Then on this Sunday, June 2nd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from on CTV it’s the traditional IWK Telethon for Children broadcast, featuring stories of patients and families who have received specialized care at the IWK.

Watch for tribute to the late Maritime radio and TV icon Frank Cameron who was a dedicated to the telethon for many years who passed away in January of this year at age 85. Remember his skits with Butch G. Cat? Here’s a classic:

The telethon will also have a tribute to Nova Scotia music legend Bruce Guthro who we lost last year. Bruce volunteered his talent over the years to the IWK

Both of our boys were born at the IWK and had major tune-ups as babies and are now grown men at ages 25 and 29.

Good luck to their mom and my wife, Roxanne who is one of the CTV Producers for the 40th IWK Telethon this weekend.
