The Peggy’s Cove Swissair Flight 111 Crash Was 28 Years Ago Tonight

It was 28 years ago tonight when Swissair Flight 111 crashed off of Saint Margaret’s Bay near Peggy’s Cove, claiming all 229 lives on board.

I recall waking up the morning after and saw Steve Murphy and Ron Kronstein, the local ATV/ASN TV anchors at the time, on the air and knew something major must’ve happened overnight.

When a plane flies over our house in the Saint Margaret’s Bay area, I often think of that tragic night.

The Swissair memorial monuments are now located in Peggy’s Cove with another one over at Bayswater, where you can look out towards the crash site and pay your respects here on this anniversary of one of Nova Scotia’s darkest times.

Nova Scotia Premier made this post earlier this morning:

Rest in peace to all the victims.
