Two people killed in Highway 101 crash

Two people in their twenties have been killed in a crash on Highway 101.

Police responded to the single-vehicle collision near Mount Uniacke just after 8 p.m. on Sunday.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Chris Marshall tells our newsroom the Honda Civic left the pavement, crossed the grass median dividing the highway, and hit the ditch on the other side.

A 20-year-old man from Dartmouth was driving the car and a 23-year-old woman from Sydney was a passenger.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A section of the highway was closed for many hours between Exits 3 and 4 as a collision reconstructionist worked to piece together what happened.

A detour was in place and the road reopened just after 2 a.m.

The investigation into what caused the crash is continuing.
