Have You Put Your Winter Tires On Yet? ·

Winter tire changing season is now here! I just changed the tires on my 4 x 4 to be ready for that illusive first snowfall here in Nova Scotia. With some parts of Northern New Brunswick and across Canada already seeing the white stuff, now is the time to get ready. Did you know winter tire use in Atlantic Canada is on the rise? The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada’s 2021 Canadian Consumer Winter Tire Study, conducted by Leger, finds that 92% of Atlantic Canada drivers now use winter tires – up from 84% in 2020. This is the highest winter tire usage rate outside Quebec. A key reason for this jump is driver experience. 87% of Atlantic Canadian motorists with winter tires say their tires have saved them from loss of control or a collision.

· 85% of Atlantic Canada drivers with winter tires cite protecting their family as their top reason for investing in winter tires.

· Among the 8% not using winter tires, 60% say they do not use winter tires because they do not drive much in winter.

· 27% think all-season tires are “good enough”.

· 10% say cost is the reason for not using winter tires.
