The investigation into the death of 10,000 chickens at a poultry farm in Lunenburg County has closed but RCMP say they will still accept any information.
It was around 9:50 a.m., July 25, when RCMP received a report of a break and enter at the farm on Naugler Road in Pine Grove.
Officers believe someone turned off the switch to the ventilation system on purpose twelve hours prior, killing all the chickens on that floor.
“The temperature increased to approximately 37 degrees,” said Corporal Mandy Edwards. “Obviously it was quite detrimental.”
She said as workers walked up to the farm that morning they could smell the rotting carcasses.
“The odour hit the person’s first,” said Edwards. “Then, when they had entered, they realized what had happened visually.”
The chickens on the second floor were not harmed.
Nothing was taken and no charges have been laid, but Edward said they can always reopen the investigation if any new details are learned.
