2003 Halifax World Junior Memories!

Reports say Halifax and Moncton looking to host the World Juniors next year! It’s hard to believe that we are coming up on 20 years since Halifax first hosted the tournament.

The 2003 event that had the city and the rink rockin’!

Back then I was the Promotions Public Address Announcer (reading live commercial ads for sponsors) and DJ, providing the soundtracks to the games.

Here are some of my pictures and memories:

(View from my Mooseheads Announce Booth while I worked the 2003 World Juniors. Theeeee loudest I’ve ever heard the then sold out Metro Centre when Canada Beat The USA 3-2 on January 3, 2003!!)

(With former Mooseheads Captain Brandon Benedict broadcasting from the World Trade and Convention Centre Fan Fest.)

(With the hardware at the World Juniors Fan Fest.)

(With Phil Pritchard the Stanley Cup Keeper. A great fella!)

(Some of my random souvenirs from 20 years ago that I keep in my home audio recording studio.)

The 2023 tourney was scheduled for Russia, but the IIHF pulled the event because of the invasion of Ukraine.

Formal bids to host the tournament are due next week and a decision should be made by the end of April.

Ottawa and Quebec City also entering a joint bid to host the 2023 world junior men’s hockey championship.

Here’s hoping Halifax gets to host the World Juniors this Christmas!

Fingers and sticks crossed!
