Emergency exits coming to two Halifax area subdivisions

The city is building two new emergency exits to ensure residents of two subdivision can leave quickly in the event of another emergency.

The new roads being built will be gated and not paved (gravel). The first will be in Haliburton Hills connecting Buckingham Drive to Highway 103, while the second will be a clearing from Highland Park from the end of Sylvannia Terrance to Hammonds Plains Road.

The municipality has the power to undergo the construction while in a local state of emergency.

Work is underway on the roads. The need for them was heightened after wildfires in Tantallon and Hammonds Plains forced the evacuation of 16,000 last Sunday.
