An iconic Halifax rock band is about to receive one the country’s biggest honors. April Wine will be inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
The legendary Canadian rock band sold over 10 million albums worldwide, with over 20 studio albums including hits such as Bad Side of the Moon, Roller, I like to Rock and Just Between you and Me, which also happens to be the first video by a Canadian artist to played on MTV.
Their fifth album “Stand Back” went double platinum in Canada and in 2009 they were inducted into the Candian Music Industry Hall of Fame and received the JUNO Lifetime Achievement Award. They were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the following year.
April Wine will be inducted alongside 12 other distinguished Canadian rock bands from the 70’s and 80’s, including: Chilliwack, Glass Tiger, Lee Aaron, Lighthouse, Loverboy, Max Webster, Michel Pagliaro, Platinum Blone, PRISM, Rough Trade, The Parachute Club and Trooper.
This is the first time the organization has done such a large induction and to commemorate the occasion, there will be two ceremonies. The first will be in September, with the first-ever Canadian Rock of Fame to help celebrate the organizations 25th anniversary, where all 13 will perform. This will be a one-time event and is separate from the induction ceremony which will be held on December 2 in Toronto.
The bands join previously announced 2023 inductees including a champion of Human Rights and Social Justice, Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella (Humanitarianism), the Canadian youth culture phenomenon, Degrassi (Arts and Entertainment), Canada’s record-breaking NHL Sensation, Connor McDavid (Sports and Athletics), beloved television superstar and influential commentator, Rick Mercer (Arts and Entertainment), and the oldest living Inductee at 104 years young, Canada’s preeminent neuropsychologist, Dr. Brenda Milner (Science, Technology and Innovation). More Inductees will be announced in the coming months, along with this year’s Allan Slaight Music Impact and National Hero Honourees.
