An RCMP officer has been cleared by the province’s police watchdog after firing a gun that left one woman dead, when responding to a call in Eastern Passage in 2025.
SiRT says it was October 14, when officers responded to a woman in distress with a large knife.
She threatened two officers with the knife, ignoring demands to comply, and was tazed unsuccessfully more than once.
After she continued to advance toward police, she was shot in the leg then chest by police.
She later died in hospital.
SiRT was contacted by police and started the investigation immediately.
