New supportive housing coming to downtown Halifax

New supportive housing for those experiencing chronic homelessness will soon be available in downtown Halifax.

The province and federal government are spending $14 million on Ozanam Place, a 38-unit development on Brunswick St.

It will have 33 studio apartments and five one-bedroom units, ten will be accessible, with priority given to those 50 or older and on the by-name list.

Community Services Minister Brendan Maguire, on behalf of Housing Minister John Lohr says this development will provide safe, affordable, supportive housing for vulnerable Nova Scotians.
“This is another great example of how government and community partners are working together to bring more affordable, supportive housing solutions to Nova Scotians, faster.”

It will be built by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, operated by the North End Community Health Centre with wraparound supports and services.

It is expected to be completed by the spring.
