Payments for the Canadian Bread Settlement started landing across the country, including for Haligonians who signed up before December 12 of last year. If you opened your email and saw the full $49.11, congratulations! You are now officially rich in bread money!
So the big question is: how much bread can your newly deposited ‘bread’ buy you the HRM?
I know there are fantastic local spots like Kingswood Market, Gateway, and many others… but for this little adventure I checked prices at three stores with multiple locations across the HRM: Walmart, Sobeys, and Atlantic Superstore. I also picked three types of bread that you can find pretty much anywhere.
Dempster’s White Bread 570g

- Sobeys: $3.99 = 12 loaves
- Superstore: $4.49 = 10 loaves
- Walmart: $3.18 = 15 loaves
Villaggio Italian Style Classico 675g

- Walmart: $4.14 = 11 loaves
- Sobeys: $3.00 = 16 loaves
- Superstore: $4.79 = 10 loaves
Wonder White Bread 570g

- Superstore: $3.99 each or 2 for $7 = 14 loaves
- Walmart: $3.18 = 15 loaves
- Sobeys: Not available
If one of these types of bread is your favourite, now you know where to go to get the most bread with your bread settlement payout! Just make sure you put some loaves in the freeze, I wouldn’t want to see them go bad before you can enjoy!
Prices were collected in-store and online between May 21 and May 26, 2026.
