Bruce Guthro Honoured At ECMA’s Last Night

From the 36th East Coast Music Awards handed out in Charlottetown, PEI last night, Cape Breton’s beloved singer-songwriter Bruce Guthro, who passed away last year, was posthumously recognized with the “Director’s Special Achievement Award” during the awards ceremony held at the Prince Edward Island Convention Centre.

I’m sure Bruce’s family, friends and fans are proud of his latest honour for the pride of Sydney Mines.

I recall Bruce droping by the radio station in Sydney in the 80’s dropping off his music for us to play.

Bruce sadly passed away last September 5th at the age of 62 after battling cancer.

Some of the big winners last night taking hone trophies included Halifax-based alt-pop duo Neon Dreams who won “Album of the Year” at the 2024 ECMA’s. The group featuring singer Frank Kadillac and drummer Adrian Morris, took home the award for “Love Child Baby Dolphin.”

P.E.I.’s The East Pointers, who led all artists with seven nominations, won Group Recording of the Year” for their EP “Safe in Sound,” while singer-songwriter Jenn Grant was awarded “Songwriter of the Year.” “Solo Recording of the Year” went to Newfoundland and Labrador singer-songwriter Tim Baker for “The Festival.”

The ECMA festival runs until Sunday, when the remaining awards are to be presented.
