Getting around Halifax could soon be a little easier, and potentially cheaper, for transit riders.
Halifax Transit has launched new features within its HFXGO mobile app aimed at helping passengers get the best value on fares.
HFXGO users can now take advantage of a new “Tap and Ride” option, allowing them to pay for their ticket directly through the app’s barcode feature when boarding buses and ferries.
For users who add funds to their verified account, Halifax Transit says the system will automatically track the balance and cap fares at a maximum of $7.50 per day and $90 per month, ensuring riders never pay more than the cost of a daily or monthly pass.
Fare capping savings are also available for seniors, who self-identify in the app, as well as Regional Express services.
Halifax Transit says the update is designed to simplify fare payments while offering riders peace of mind that they’re receiving the lowest fare available.
The municipality is also planning to launch additional payment options later this year, including “Tap to Pay” which will allow for contactless credit and debit card payments.
