The Rolling Stones Rocked Halifax 20 Years Ago Tonight

It was a wet soggy day when the opening acts took to the stage on this day of September 23rd, 2006 with Kanye West, Alice Cooper and Halifax’s Sloan on the Halifax Common opening up for the legendary Rolling Stones!

I remember there was an NHL preseason game in town at the then Metro Centre featuring the Boston Bruins and the New York Islanders.

After announcing the game, I was walking up Rainnie Drive and could hear the Stones “Start Me Up” thinking the show had just begun, but they were half way through their setlist.

The Halifax Police let us hang around Cogswell street and we heard the rest of the show with classics like: “Honky Tonk Women,” “Sympathy For The Devil,” “Jumping Jack Flash,” “Brown Sugar” and the encore song: “Satisfaction.”

I remember calling home an had my wife and then 11 year old son on the phone and they listened to a couple of tunes on my old Nokia 3220 cellphone.

Hard to believe that was 20 years ago on a rainy Halifax night but nobody care as rock legends were here in our city.

Here’s the Stones setlist from that night: The Rolling Stones Concert Setlist at Halifax Common, Halifax on September 23, 2006 | setlist.fm
