Halifax vigil to honour family killed in Ontario attack

A vigil will be held in Halifax on Wednesday night to honour the four members of a Muslim family who police say were killed in a hate-motivated attack in Ontario.

The Ummah Masjid And Community Center has called it a terrorist attack, demanding government use all measures to tackle hate, racism, and Islamophobia.

In a Tweet, the community centre says the 1-hour vigil will take place outside the Ummah Mosque at 7 p.m., and social distancing and mask wearing will be enforced.

The incident happened on Sunday night when the family of five were out walking in London and were deliberately run down by a man driving a pick-up truck. A nine-year-old boy is in hospital.

The 20-year-old suspect is facing four counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
