Ian Meets Special Olympics Legend Loretta Claiborne

I was honoured to have been the Special Olympics Nova Scotia Announcer for their starting lineup last night at the Halifax Convention Centre for their 32nd annual Inspire Gala and Auction.

It’s a night to celebrate the athletes, coaches, and volunteers. Congrats to all the award winners who are truly an inspiration.

Over 700 people gathered to hear the keynote speaker, 72 year old Loretta Claiborne who’s been a Special Olympian for 53 years competing in hundreds of events, what a story she told of her journey.

Disney did a movie about her in 2000 and Loretta’s new book comes out this June.

Here’s a bit of Loretta’s speech:

Above a Q and A and a standing ovation for Loretta.

One time Denzel Washington wanted a copy of her speech and Loretta gave him a blank piece of paper. He said “there’s nothing on this!” She replied I speak from my heart.

Thanks to Mike Greek CEO of Special Olympics Nova Scotia for the announcer assignment.
