This is my Uncle Lloyd Urquhart from Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton.
He served in WWII and went to Sicily when he was my son’s ages now, in their 20’s.
Uncle Lloyd was in the Italian Campaign and fought all the rest of the way to France and finally to Holland.

My Mother, Barbara, would often send him care packs from home that he always looked forward to receiving and sharing with his fellow soldiers.
He drove a Sherman tank “the Amaze” and was wounded in that tank in Italy which was damaged by a bazooka shot from a sniper.
He suffered injuries when got gun powder in his eyes and lost his sight for several weeks and also had shrapnel in his hand from the attack.
He showed that to my boys when they were little, and they never forgot the scars of war.
That tank he drove was repaired and made it to Holland with the 8th New Brunswick Hussars.
When he recovered, he joined the Toronto Horse Guards and drove a newer tank until the end of the War in 1945.
Uncle Lloyd was in the last battle at night that happened after the Armistice of peace was declared.
On past Remembrance Days, I would call him and say “thanks for your service.” He was always very humble about it.
Uncle Lloyd is our families War Hero, we miss him.
