Legendary Halifax TV Weather Forecaster Passes Away

Sad to hear on the weekend of the passing of my friend Peter Coade.

Peter was a familiar face on TV delivering the weather for decades across Canada and later in his career here in the Maritimes on ATV/ASN later CTV and finally wrapping up his impressive career at CBC Halifax.

In 2013 Peter made into the Guiness Book of World Records as having had the longest career of any weather broadcaster at 50 years, 8 months and 21 days!

He guided us through many snowstorms and even Hurricane Juan September 28th, 2003, and White Juan on February 19th, 2004.

My wife Roxanne has a satellite picture of Hurricane Juan heading towards Halifax on the wall in her home office autographed by Peter.

They worked together for many years on Christmas Daddies on CTV.

Peter’s obituary says that he was proud of his career but even prouder of his family and friends are encouraged to honour him by sharing a drink, carry and umbrella, just in case, and cheer on the Toronto Maple Leafs. We will do that for you tonight my friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, Peter was 82.

Here’s a 1993 forecast from Peter on ASN:

Thanks for the forecasts and telling us what to wear over the years, Peter.
