Nearly one year after a devastating wildfire in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis County forced hundreds from their homes, the blaze is fully out.
In a post on social media Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says the Long Lake wildfire in West Dalhousie “is now considered extinguished after the completion of aerial hot spot scanning.”
DNR thanks crews, volunteer fire departments and partners who helped manage the fire.

The fire broke out on August 13, 2025, after a lightning strike during an unprecedented drought. At its peak, it spread to 8,500 hectares and destroyed 20 homes.
The province is now in another wildfire season and has already used four fixed-wing water bombers, contracted from New Brunswick, to battle a three-hectare wildfire in Queens County, May 19.
That fire was on the heels of the first heat wave for that part of the province.
