Lynyrd Skynyrd Came To “Sweet Home Halifax!”

Music legends Lynyrd Skynyrd paid a visit to Halifax last night to celebrate 50 years of “Skynyrd.”

The Jacksonville, Florida band originally formed in 1966, later named after the guitarist Gary Rossington’s high school gym teacher Leonard Skinner played to a nearly packed Scotiabank Centre.

I totally loved the show from section 19, Row J seat 5…

They played their catalogue of classics from the 1970’s like “Call Me The Breeze”, “What’s You Name?”, “Tuesday’s Gone”, from the Happy Gilmore soundtrack, “Gimme Three Steps” and they wrapped up their 90 minute set with the classic “Sweet Home Alabama” that had Halifax singing out loud!

The encore was just one song with a 10 minute plus version of “Free Bird” that nearly blew the roof off the hockey rink!

They thanked us for coming out on a “school night” and were glad to see the generations of Skynyrd fans from young to old.

They last played here on September 30th, 1999, almost 26 years to the day when Ted Nugent was the opener.

Lynyrd Skynyrd wraps up their Canadian tour his Thursday night in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Thanks for the memories fellas!
