Peggy’s Cove Swissair Flight 111 25th Anniversary Is Saturday

25 years ago tomorrow, Saturday September 2nd, Swissair Flight 111 crashed into the sea off Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, on a flight from New York to Geneva, Switzerland. All 229 passengers and crew died. I can remember waking up the next morning turning on the TV and seeing news anchors at the time Steve Murphy and Ron Kronstein on, and I knew something major must have happened. Out where we live in Hubley, when I hear a plane go over the house around 10 o’clock at night, I can’t help but think of those we lost. The Swiss Air Memorials are located at Peggy’s Cove and at Bayswater honouring those that died on this date in 1998. There will be a candle light vigil at the Bayswater Memorial to mark the 25th anniversary. At Hot Country 1035 our thoughts are with all the loved ones, the first responders, and community members who were affected by this tragedy on September 2nd, 1998. -Ian Credits: Ian Robinson Photo
