Activities for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today is the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

There are many activities planned today on the Halifax waterfront for Orange Shirt Day with crafts and painting on orange shirts with folks from the Mi’Kmaw Native Friendship Centre on hand to chat and answer any questions. Other ceremonies will take place downtown at Grand Parade at 5:30.

Tomorrow, Friday, for Treaty Day at 11:30am there’ll be a Traditional Salmon Dinner for the first 500 with Live entertainment.

Family Day starts at noon Saturday with crafts for children and a Pow Wow with dance demonstrations.

For more information call the Mi’Kmaw Native Friendship Centre at 902-420-1576 or visit their website:

In collaboration with the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund and First People’s Radio, Hot Country 103.5 will be airing a one-hour special at 6pm tonight.

Please take a moment to learn more about the history of residential schools in Canada, orange shirt day and the path to healing.
