UPD: Tropical Storm Elsa continues to track towards the Maritimes

We’re keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Elsa.

The Canadian Hurricane Centre has issued a Tropical Cyclone Information Statement for Nova Scotia, as well as New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

The centre of the storm is currently moving through Eastern Georgia as it makes it way toward the Maritimes.

It’s expected to track across our region as a post-tropical storm late Friday or Saturday bringing significant rain to some areas and strong winds.

The current track from Environment Canada shows the system travelling northward with a greater impact over New Brunswick as areas along and north of its track will see significant rainfall.

On the current track, coastal areas of Nova Scotia could see wind gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour and parts of New Brunswick could see more than 50 millimeters of rain.

Environment Canada expects its next update at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
