Welcome the Newfoundland Regiment to the QMJHL

The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League’s newest team will be known as the Newfoundland Regiment.

The team’s new moniker reflects the deep military history of Newfoundland and Labrador, while their logo features a navy-blue shield behind a large caribou head, paying tribute to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.

Over 500 gathered this afternoon with many local minor hockey players there for the unveiling of the name and team’s logo. With the announcement, this means the QMJHL’s Acadie Bathurst will be moving to St. John’s, Newfoundland next season for the 2025-26 QMJHL season and play out of the Mary Brown’s Centre that holds about 7,000 fans. Even “Buddy the Puffin” mascot is returning! The Titan had been in New Brunswick since 1998 after moving from Laval Quebec back then. The QMJHL was previously on “The Rock” between 2005 and 2008 as the St. John’s Fog Devils. More recently the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers played out of the rink with AHL’s teams like the Ice Caps and Maple Leafs back in the day. Good luck to the Newfoundland Regiment from Moose Country.
