During the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers World Series games on the weekend, a recognizable flag was seen behind the home plate.
To be precise, it was a Cape Breton flag proudly held throughout the games in Toronto on Friday and Saturday by longtime Jays fan, Johnny Chisholm.
He said “I went to the last World Series in ’92, but my seats were a little different. They were in the 500 level, with my dad and my two brothers, behind the lights,” he said with a laugh.
Now, three decades later, Johnny is a season ticket holder with seats right behind home plate. And with this great spot, he knew he wanted to show some love to Cape Breton, his “favourite place in the world.”
His father was born and raised in Troy, up Port Hood way, on the western shore of Cape Breton, about 8 kilometers from the Canso Causeway.
He grew up visiting the area, and he has a lot of family still there saying: “This is a good time to give a little love to Cape Breton, shine a little light on it.”
Johnny actually was born in Burlington, Ont., and lives there now and loves going to the Jays games sitting in the same section as fellow Jays superfan Geddy Lee of RUSH.
He adds: “Maybe some people in Canada will think about their vacations and book some time in Nova Scotia, go see Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail.”
Johnny’s flag caught the eye of many folks watching the game, and has been shared across social media including my picture above.
