A man was arrested after police learned he was holding a woman against her will in a vehicle travelling from Moncton, New Brunswick to Nova Scotia.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday when officers say the woman was able to alert authorities about being in a vehicle with an armed man before her call was interrupted.
As information was gathered, officers in New Brunswick coordinated with Nova Scotia RCMP and issued a request to locate them. That’s when members of the East Hants District RCMP stopped the suspect near Elmsdale, Nova Scotia.
Officers safely removed the woman and arrested the 28-year-old without incident. A knife was seized as part of the investigation.
“The successful resolution of this incident is the result of quick thinking by the victim and strong coordination between RCMP members in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia,” says Cpl. Luc Picard of the Codiac Regional RCMP. “The victim’s ability to safely communicate with police provided critical information that helped officers locate the vehicle and bring the situation to a safe conclusion.”
The man will remain in custody as he waits for a later court date. The investigation is ongoing.
