A Halifax woman says she’s heading to Newfoundland to celebrate after being the second Atlantic Canadian to win a $2 million lotto prize in less than two months.
In a news release, Atlantic Lottery says Jodine Baker won the cash on the Vault Scratch’N Win game.
It was in May when Perry and Yvonne Noseworthy of Paradise, N.L. took home the same amount.
Baker says she was already in disbelief when she thought she won $100,000 but was quickly astounded when she realized it was so much more.
“I yelled to Mark, ‘I think I won $100,000 but I don’t understand. It says ’20X’ – something must be wrong’,” says Baker. “Mark was like, ‘Well that means $2 million! do your math!'”
She says she is from Newfoundland and considers herself a Newfoundlander. So, that is where she wanted to go for the weekend when she confirmed the win.
“It’s going to be a good time. Newfoundlanders know how to party.”
Baker plans to use her winnings to pay off her mortgage, purchase a new truck, vehicles for her children and take her first trip down south.
“It’s very life-changing, coming from nothing to having options,” says Baker. “We’re going to be mortgage-free. That’s all I can think about. I can go wherever I want and give my kids what they want.”
Baker works as a financial administrator. She loves working and plans to continue, however, retirement may come a littler earlier.
